About Sanderson
Founded in 1860 by Arthur Sanderson in London, Sanderson began by importing exquisite French wallpapers. What started as a modest venture quickly blossomed into one of Britain's most renowned interior design houses. By 1867, Sanderson had opened its own wallpaper factory in Chiswick; described at the time as "the finest wallpaper mill in the world."
After Arthur's death in 1870, his sons continued the legacy, expanding production and establishing Sanderson's reputation for hand-drawn designs celebrating the British countryside. In 1919, the company began producing printed fabrics, adding to their wallpaper expertise. This duality of fabric and wallpaper collections became the hallmark that defines Sanderson today.

Royal Warrant Holder Since 1924
In 1924, Sanderson received the Royal Warrant as Purveyors of Wallpapers and Paints to King George V, the first warrant ever granted for these products. For over 100 years, Sanderson has continuously held this prestigious honour, supplying fabrics, paint, and wall coverings to British Royal Residences.
This royal connection continues today with the Highgrove by Sanderson collection, created in partnership with His Majesty King Charles III's Foundation, inspired by the extraordinary flora and fauna of Highgrove Gardens.

The Sanderson Design Legacy
Today, Sanderson is part of Sanderson Design Group, home to iconic British brands including Morris & Co (whose archives Sanderson acquired in 1940), Zoffany, Harlequin, Clarke & Clarke, and Scion. This collective represents over 160 years of British design heritage, bringing together the best of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation.
Sanderson's signature style, quintessentially English florals and botanicals, has remained remarkably consistent while evolving to meet modern tastes. Their recognizable patterns continue to reimagine the British countryside, gardens, and natural world through a distinctly British lens.

Their patterns are instantly recognizable; sophisticated, detailed, and quintessentially English.
The acquisition of Morris & Co's archives in 1940 gave Sanderson access to some of the most important design documents in British history, strengthening their position as custodians of British decorative arts.
